Orchard House lies in a peaceful backwater of Bakewell, away from traffic noise and other distractions. And yet we are only a ten minute walk from the centre of the town. The house was built on land donated by the Duke of Rutland for the community of Bakewell in the late 19th century.

We offer three double bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities. There is free wi-fi. Breakfast is taken in the large Drawing Room.

Visitors come to the Peak District for the fabulous scenery, the extensive walking, the climbing and the cycling. Orchard House is around 500 metres from the start of the Monsal Trail, a disused railway line developed for walking and cycling. We have secure storage facilities for private cycles. A cycle hire company operates next to the trail.

Bakewell is the perfect base for all these activities, and the town offers all the facilities you might need during your stay in the Peak District. There are numerous shops & cafes, six pubs, five good restaurants, four banks, two filling stations, two dispensing chemists and a Post Office. The octagonal tower of the parish church overlooks the town.

Within a good walk or a few minutes' drive of Bakewell are two of the country's finest stately homes, Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. The caverns of the Hope Valley and the rugged Kinder plateau are a little further away to the north. There are five fine-dining restaurants in neighbouring villages.
